Mr Angelos Kotios is the Rector of the University of Piraeus and since 2008 is a Professor of International & European Economics and Development at the Department of International and European Studies. He has teaching experience at the School of Economics of the University of Tübingen (1987-1990 - International Economic Policy and Relations) and at the Department of Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly (1995-2008 - International and European Economic and Development Policies). He holds a degree in Economics (Department of Economics - AUTH - 1979), a postgraduate degree (1981) and a PhD in International Economics (1985 - School of Economics – University of Tübingen). Prof. Kotios has an important scientific presence with numerous publications (over 100 monographs, books and articles) and participation in conferences (over 100 entries) on issues such as international, European and national economic developments, Cohesion Policy, European local and regional development and government. During the period 1987-1991 he was a researcher of the interdisciplinary research team of the University of Tübingen "Internationale und Europäische Wirtschaftsordnung" (International and European Economic Class). He served as the Director of the Laboratory of Evaluation of Policies and Development Programs (1999-2007) and as a senior researcher of the South and East European Development Center (SEED Center) of the University of Thessaly. Since 2015 he is the Director of the Laboratory of International and European Policies and Development Programs of the University of Piraeus. Within the above milestones, he has participated either as a research member or as a Scientific Coordinator in the implementation of a significant number of (96) European research programs, as well as technical support programs to Municipalities, Regions, Ministries and other Greek entities, regarding areas of development planning, resources exploitation and empowerment of local government. Mr Kotios has also served as a Special Advisor of the Ministries of Economy (1990) and Foreign Affairs (1991-1993), in European and International Cooperation, in Development and Economic issues. He has also served as Vice Rector of the University of Thessaly during the period 2005-2008, as well as Dean of the School of Economics, Business and International Studies of the University of Piraeus during the period 2013-2017.
